The Edinburgh International Festival, in collaboration with The Macallan single malt Scotch whisky, proudly unveils the full details of its Opening Event: Where to Begin.
This visually stunning, large-scale outdoor experience will mark the start of the 2024 International Festival, running from 2-4 August at the historic George Heriot’s School, a UNESCO World Heritage site in Edinburgh’s Old Town.
Unique Festival Opener
Conceived by the innovative team at Pinwheel, led by Creative Director Katy Fuller, Where to Begin offers an immersive journey that transforms George Heriot’s grounds with live performances, music, large-scale video projections, and captivating storytelling. This event celebrates Edinburgh’s rich creative heritage and the 2024 International Festival theme, Rituals That Unite Us.

Pinwheel has curated a remarkable team for this event, including theatre-maker Simon Sharkey, video artists Yeast Culture, composer Roma Yagnik, writer Davey Anderson, fire installation experts AndNow, production designer Becky Minto, and lighting designer Phil Supple.
