Resurrection Run Club - illustration by Taesea Fife

Taesea was commissioned by Dunfermline’s renowned Old Town Barber Club (OTBC) to create a striking visual identity for the inaugural Resurrection Run Club event, held on 20th April 2025.

The brief was to develop an illustration that captured the spirit of renewal, energy, and heritage, aligning with the theme “Rise. Run.” and Dunfermline’s rich cultural lineage.

The primary creative influence behind the design was the iconic cover artwork from The Skids’ 1979 album Days in Europa. This reference pays tribute not only to a defining moment in post-punk visual culture but also to a personal connection. OTBC founder Brian Jobson’s elder brother, Richard Jobson, is the lead singer of The Skids, Dunfermline’s legendary band.

Visual Composition

The central illustration features a powerful image of rebirth and momentum. A classical, statue-like runner emerges from the darkness, arms outstretched in motion, flanked by a supporting figure evoking both revival and camaraderie- mirroring the club’s ethos of collective endurance and personal transformation. The bold monochrome treatment nods to album artwork from the late ’70s while lending timeless impact and high contrast for print.

Typography & Layout

  • The event slogan “RISE. RUN.” arcs confidently across the top in bold serif lettering, reinforcing a mantra-like rhythm that encourages action.

  • Below the figures, the club name “RESURRECTION RUN CLUB” anchors the piece, sitting neatly within the frame of a rising sun motif that hints at both dawn and new beginnings.

Application

The design was screen printed onto the back of each race T-shirt, giving participants a wearable piece of art and local history. A small monogram device was also placed on the chest for minimal elegance, maintaining brand consistency across all apparel.

The design resonated with runners and spectators alike, sparking conversation and appreciation for both the music and the message behind the run. It successfully united past and present, art and sport, community and identity capturing everything the Resurrection Run Club set out to represent.
